Returning to practice

Some colleagues may need to have time out of working (or training) for a variety of reasons, including statutory (maternal, parental or adoption) leave, a career break or after prolonged sickness.

Colleagues, including SAS doctors and Consultants, may also take a period of absence from work for similar reasons which can often vary in duration. Immediate return to full duties after a prolonged period of absence can sometimes be daunting.

There are a range of supports in such circumstances, and it is suggested that colleagues seek advice from within their own places of work, and depending on the circumstances, occupational health and GPs. Colleagues can also seek help from our Psychiatrists' Support Service and we have specific support for trainees leading up to their career.
