Last night we held our latest New Fellows’ Ceremony – which honours the amazing contributions of our senior members, from around the world, to the field of psychiatry.
The event, which was held at our central London headquarters, saw 38 new Fellows – all of whom have reached the pinnacle of their career – being inducted.
In what was a celebration of the diversity in psychiatry, eight new Fellows travelled to the event from overseas: two from Canada, two from Australia, one from Sudan, one from India, one from the United Arab Emirates and one from America.
The ceremony was addressed by College President Professor Wendy Burn, Registrar Dr Adrian James and Chief Executive Paul Rees.
During the event, the College highlighted how proud it is of its diversity: with 45% of its members being female and 36% of its members being of a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background.
More than 1,100 College members are also members of the organisations’ Rainbow SIG, which discusses LGBTQ issues, and promotes equality for people who are LGBTQ.
The College’s determination to promote diversity and challenge inequalities is highlighted through its new values:
- Courage
- Innovation
- Respect
- Collaboration
- Learning and
- Excellence.
