New Dual CCT training pathway approved

We are pleased to announce the General Medical Council (GMC) has recently approved the College’s application for a Learning Disability and Forensic Dual pathway.

The GMC said:

“We are pleased to approve the pairing. We received strong support from Heads of School for Psychiatry in England and the rationale clearly highlights a benefit to patients with learning disabilities, particularly within the criminal justice system.

“We also recognise that recruitment and retention is an ongoing challenge with significant disparity of training opportunities between regions and nations, which this dual training option may help to address.”

Heads of School have been notified of the new pairing and we hope for posts to be made available to trainees soon.

The duration of the dual CCT will be eight years, this is inclusive of Core Psychiatry Training.
