England, Scotland and Wales

Applications for CT1 and ST4 psychiatry training posts in England, Scotland and Wales are coordinated by Health Education England’s North West Local Office.

Broad Based Training in Scotland

Broad Based Training is a new core training programme available in Scotland.

Northern Ireland

Applications for training posts in Northern Ireland are managed by the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency

Changing Specialties

Many of the core capabilities are common across different curricula, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges has developed guidance for flexibility in postgraduate training and changing specialties. Individuals who have successfully completed a minimum of one year training in the following specialties may be able to have some of that training count towards Core Psychiatry Training:

  • Core Medical Training
  • General Practice
  • Paediatrics and Child Health
  • Public Health
