Overview of the Quality Mark

Background

Why do we need the Quality Mark?

Hospital admission can be particularly difficult for older people. Without the best care, illness or injury can lead to poor outcomes such as loss of mobility or cognitive skills.

Loss of continence, skin problems, dehydration and malnutrition are also risks that have been associated with hospital care.

The Quality Mark helps wards to focus on the quality of essential care for older patients. For more information on the improvements wards have made as part of the process, please see the programme's reports and resources.

Taking part demonstrates commitment made by your hospital, your ward and your staff to achieve consistent high-quality care for older people. Please see the Statement of Measurements (PDF) for more detail on how wards are assessed.

The Quality Mark leaflet contains a summary of the programme. You can also find more information on the data collection process.

If you are from a ward currently undertaking data collection, please submit your data. For recent updates from the project team, please see the news section.
