The tragic killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police in May 2020 showed just how deeply embedded prejudice and discrimination are in modern society. It was a clarion call to many around the world that urgent action was needed, to promote equality in our organisations, in our nations and across the world.
Former President Dr Adrian James made clear that diversity and equality would be top priorities for him when he stood in the election to become the RCPsych President at the end of 2019.
The College wants to tackle mental health inequalities by influencing policies, processes and procedure, through enabling and supporting organisational competence frameworks across the College and wider mental health services.
Our approach is based on using the NHSE/I Advancing Mental Health Equality resource.
